Description:

Prevention is an alluring solution to the enormous and expanding burden of osteoarthritis. Despite this, the field of osteoarthritis prevention is immature and faces many challenges. Most of what we know about preventing osteoarthritis is relative to osteoarthritis disease (underlying biology and pathophysiology), with few studies considering osteoarthritis illness (experience of unhealth), the force behind the personal and societal burden. This presentation will discuss what is known about osteoarthritis prevention, outline important road blocks, propose actionable strategies related to the most promising modifiable risk factors (joint injury and obesity) across the lifespan, identify where evidence is lacking and offer a roadmap to move forward.
